The executive director of the foundation, Marisa Comella, reported that the programs will benefit the 42% of children in the region who live in poverty, a situation that limits their access to basic health services. "Next period we will support 40 programs within the spectrum of children's health throughout the state, with a special focus on Los Cabos, where the need is greatest," Comella said in an interview with the media.

Rehabilitation of the Los Cabos Convention Center Generates Resources for the Health Sector

Centro de Convenciones 1

Since March, the Los Cabos Convention Center has raised five million pesos in rent, destined to meet various needs of the health sector in Baja California Sur. The company Baja Developed, in charge of the leasing, will invest around 80 million pesos in the rehabilitation of the property, reported Carlos Castro Ceseña, representative of the state government in the municipality of Los Cabos.

Castro Ceseña explained that the Convention Center, known as G-20, was leased in March under an agreement that has been rigorously fulfilled, with five million pesos already delivered. "The tenant has committed to rehabilitate the Center, working on cleaning and advancing in its conditioning for future cultural, artistic and other events," he said.

The building, previously a financial burden for the state government, now has a purpose and generates income destined for public health, preventing it from continuing to be a "white elephant." Castro Ceseña stressed that the funds obtained are used to cover medical expenses, including medicines and ambulances, both in Los Cabos and in other regions of the state.

The Undersecretary of Administration of the government of Baja California Sur oversees the orderly application of these resources, ensuring that they are allocated where they are most needed. Initially, Governor Víctor Castro Cosío considered converting the Convention Center into offices, but the high costs of rehabilitation, estimated at 27 to 30 million pesos, made this option unfeasible.

In addition, other government properties are also generating resources. The Convention Center of the government house in El Caimáncito, La Paz, is rented for 700 thousand pesos per month, funds that are distributed among the five municipalities for cultural, sports and educational purposes. The government house in San José del Cabo hopes to be leased or sold to finance community projects.

Baja Developed's investment will transform the Convention Center into a world-class event space, attracting event and convention tourism, in addition to the already popular sport fishing, golf and cruise tourism. "Los Cabos will distinguish itself as a strategic destination for both national and international tourism," concluded Castro Ceseña.
