Los Cabos and Condor Airlines prepare the inauguration of the direct route to Frankfurt

Los Cabos y Condor Airlines

The Los Cabos Tourism Trust (FITURCA), together with a delegation of 10 hotels and 4 tour operators (DMCs), carried out a series of promotional events in strategic cities such as Frankfurt, Munich, Hamburg and Zurich. These activities, carried out in collaboration with Condor Airlines, prepare the ground for the inauguration of the new direct air route between Frankfurt and Los Cabos, which will begin operating on November 3, 2024.

“The new direct route, operated by Condor Airlines, aims to attract 16 thousand tourists, consolidating European tourism as the third most relevant international market for Los Cabos. It is estimated that this influx will generate an economic spillover of more than one billion dollars in the region, significantly boosting local development,” said Rodrigo Esponda, General Director of FITURCA.

The route, also confirmed for the 2025 and 2026 seasons, not only opens new doors to the European market, but also marks a strategic advance in the growth of international tourism for Los Cabos. To enhance this new connection, FITURCA has implemented an ambitious promotion strategy in Germany and Switzerland, with the aim of consolidating the presence of Los Cabos in the European market, particularly in Germany.

10 reasons to visit Los Cabos

As part of the promotion strategy, events were held with more than 60 media specialized in tourism, lifestyle, gastronomy and sports in Munich, Hamburg and Zurich. In addition, more than 10 individual meetings were held with media representatives, to whom 10 key reasons for Germans and Swiss to choose to visit Los Cabos were presented. Highlights included biodiversity, natural wealth, gastronomy, the new direct Condor route and, especially, the safety of the destination.

For the first time, Los Cabos implemented a consumer-oriented promotion strategy, which included advertising campaigns on radio and outdoor media, as well as events in major German and Swiss cities. Highlights included the installation of life-size whales in Main Taunus, Skyline Plaza and Frankfurt Central Station, as well as an activation at City Beach, with the participation of more than 1,500 people.

Tradeshow events were also organized in Frankfurt, Munich, Düsseldorf and Hamburg, where more than 300 travel agents learned about Los Cabos' tourism offering and the latest developments in the destination. These meetings contributed to strengthening relationships with the main market players and generating new business opportunities for the destination.

In addition, meetings were held with key operators from Germany and Switzerland such as Dertouristik, Dertour, Kouny, Hotelplan and Sonnenklar, exploring opportunities to expand the Los Cabos catalog and different marketing opportunities.

With these actions, Los Cabos reaffirms its commitment to diversify its markets and strengthen its position as one of the most exclusive and safe destinations in Mexico for international travelers.

First stage of The Place at Cabo Development inaugurated in the heart of CSL

The Place at Cabo 1

On August 29, the first stage of the hotel and commercial development of what will be The Place at Cabo Hotel was announced. It is located in the heart of Cabo San Lucas in front of Plaza Bonita in the marina.

The building, which remained unfinished for years, had been abandoned due to a long labor dispute that was finally resolved thanks to an agreement between the CROC workers' union and the Questro Group for the building, and with Fonatur for the surrounding streets that were in very poor condition, without lighting or surveillance.

This first stage, which already has public parking, is located in the area adjacent to the building where a series of premises for a variety of small restaurants, shops and galleries were designed - under a pleasant tree-lined area - located between the Paseo de la Marina and just over 300 meters from the Marina boardwalk known as the “Barracuda” walkway, where a picturesque “trolly” train car will make free trips for tourists and walkers.

Architect Ramón Armenta, Questro Group: “It starts with an agreement with FONATUR to restore the entire polygon, the perimeter of the streets that are 4, 5, 6 and the Barracuda walkway, along with the public plaza. In parallel, we found places that we could rescue, the parking lot, this green area, everything that is the front of the Barracuda walkway with commercial premises, we widened the Barracuda walkway, we brought in the amenity of a trolley, we put in a railing, we changed the entire floor, and finally the objective of the project was to rescue it, and why not, give added value to the entire perimeter.”

The project includes a hotel for more than 260 rooms that is expected to be completed by 2026. In addition, the rehabilitation and lighting of the walkways is planned, which will not only improve the aesthetics of the place, but will also increase security for visitors.

Architect Ramón Armenta, Questro Group: “Next to the public square there will be an immersive experience, it is a museum, a ship with that immersive experience, the boat that comes from Puerto Los Cabos arrives there, you will be able to disembark there and you will have a meeting point, on the other side, parallel, we will have a market, and as a last stage, it is the total recovery of the hotel.”

Several shops of well-known brands and art galleries are planned that will open at the beginning of December of this year.

Idania Salmon, Marketing Director: “In this first stage, we are starting with 16 retail stores, apart from the 4 galleries that we are starting, basically this area is going to be pure food and drinks, but outdoors. We are going to have a Cocktail Bar, we have some Tacos and Mezcal, we have seafood, and right in front we want to set up an area with pergolas for artisans and artists”

During the ceremony prior to the ribbon cutting, the mayor of Los Cabos, Oscar Leggs said:

Oscar Leggs, Municipal President of Los Cabos: “It is important to tell you that as we say colloquially here, this was a nest of criminals, it always has been, really, a long time ago and nobody did anything and cared; Don Eduardo goes beyond that, goes over that and takes action, this really changes the image of downtown Cabo San Lucas, and invites not only those who visit us, but also the inhabitants to take the tour, to come and see that we have this in Cabo San Lucas, we don't have to go looking for it somewhere else."

Enrique Turcott, director of Institutional Relations for Grupo Questro, said that the group's objective is to bring benefits not only to Cabo San Lucas, but to the entire community:

For his part, the developer and president of Grupo Questro commented:

Eduardo Sánchez Navarro, President Questro Group: “Today I want to acknowledge 5 supporters that we have had and that have made this first stage of The Place at Cabo project possible: 1, Croc, 2, FONATUR, 3, the Municipality and the Delegation, 4, the Navy, and 5, the very valuable support of the project development team, headed by architect Armenta.”

According to representatives of the local community, they agree that this project is a great tourist and urban rescue that will generate hundreds of jobs, a very important and beneficial economic spillover for the area, and the image of the heart of Cabo San Lucas will improve significantly after the abandonment that this unfinished building had for more than two decades.

Los Cabos Tourism Representatives Hold First Meetings with the New Secretary of Tourism

IMG 5409

Mauricio Salicrup, president of the Board of Directors of the Los Cabos Hotel Association, announced that the first meetings have been held with Josefina Rodríguez Zamora, the next Secretary of Tourism of Mexico. Rodríguez Zamora was recently appointed by President-elect Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo as head of the Ministry of Tourism for the next six-year term.

Salicrup highlighted that these meetings have been productive, with the participation of associations from the main tourist destinations in the country, as well as with the National Association of Hotel Chains (ANCH) and the Mexican Tourism Business Council (CNET). During the meetings, the needs of the tourism sector and the importance of tourism representation in government agencies to address problems at the national level were discussed.

One of the main concerns of the sector in Baja California Sur, and especially in Los Cabos, is tourism promotion. Salicrup noted that the lack of promotion has affected the competitiveness of Los Cabos compared to other tourist destinations, which has been reflected in a decrease in visitors during the summer season.

Josefina Rodríguez Zamora, originally from Tlaxcala, has been recognized as a young leader in the tourism sector, standing out for her work in promotional campaigns such as "Tlaxcala, Existe," which positioned her state on the national and international tourism map. She was also instrumental in the designation of Ixtenco as a Magical Town and in the publication of books highlighting the cultural heritage of Tlaxcala.

Salicrup indicated that Rodríguez Zamora understands the importance of promotion for tourism development and has committed to continue discussing mechanisms to strengthen tourism promotion once she officially assumes office. In these meetings, Los Cabos and Baja California Sur have stood out thanks to the work of the Tourism Trust, led by Rodrigo EspondaCascajares, and the State Secretariat of Tourism, headed by Maribel Collins.

Collaboration with the new Tourism Secretariat will be key to continuing tourism growth in Los Cabos and throughout the region.
