Governor Víctor Castro Cosío led the inaugural ceremony of the Monterrey-La Paz-Monterrey flight by the Volaris airline, which will have two weekly frequencies; Thursday and Sunday, with a capacity for 180 passengers, which represents approximately 15,000 tourists a year to the destination La Paz.

In the presence of the head of the Ministry of Tourism and Economy (SETUE) in the entity, Maribel Collins, the mayor Milena Quiroga, the representative of Volaris, Neiyarit López, the state executive also highlighted the start of the direct flight that will connect Guanajuato (in the Bajío) with the state capital, which will have two weekly frequencies; Tuesday and Saturday.

"We are very happy because air connectivity in Baja California Sur is growing steadily and opening up to the diversification of the national market, connecting with new destinations that serve as points to attract more tourists from other parts of the Republic, as in these cases, routes that connect our capital with Monterrey, Nuevo León and Guanajuato, Guanajuato," he said.

The Secretary of Tourism, Maribel Collins Sánchez, also thanked Volaris for trusting the destinations of the entity, since this company has put into operation 6 direct routes that connect the 3 international airports with the interior of the Mexican Republic, as well as the willingness to continue evaluating other destinations.

Collins Sánchez announced that with these two new routes, La Paz would receive approximately 30,000 visitors a year, which would represent an economic benefit of some 120 million pesos.

Finally, the state executive asserted that the SETUE will continue to seek commercial alliances so that the tourism industry in Baja California Sur grows and develops for the benefit of South Californian families.

Also present at the event were Deputy Eduardo Van Wormer, the director of FITUPAZ Luz María Zepeda, the representative of FITUES Elizabeth Aceves and Sarahí Castro Araiza, director of the Manuel Márquez de León International Airport.

On July 13, 2023, the Women's Association of Tourism Company Executives of the Mexican Republic, Baja California Sur chapter, presented the first forum "BCS for sustainable tourism with social, corporate and environmental responsibility" focused on sharing and express ideas that contribute to sustainable tourism within the five municipalities of the State.

Starting with the keynote speech by the director of Tourism and Regional Development of Deloitte Mexico, Teresa Solis "Strategic synergies to achieve responsible and sustainable tourism" to give rise to the participation of nine experts in the industry, where they presented the most outstanding aspects of sustainable tourism, caring for the environment and our natural resources.

It should be noted that the Forum was fully booked in its face-to-face mode, in addition to being transmitted via Zoom to more than 400 members who followed the event remotely.

This forum was divided into two panels; the first "Sustainable Destinations in Baja California Sur" integrated by Carlos Posadas Solano, executive director of Eco Alianza de Loreto; Lucía Frausto, general director of CómoVamos La Paz; Usiel García, director of IMPLAN Los Cabos and Rodrigo Esponda, general director of the Los Cabos Tourism Trust (FITURCA).

The second panel "Innovative and Sustainable Tourism Products" was presented remotely by Andrea Reynolds; Antonio del Rosal Stanford, CEO of Integra Turismo for Good and José Manuel Ochoa from Cabo Sails.

Undoubtedly, this first event aligned with the sustainable photo guide proved to be a great success and aroused interest among members of the tourism industry and the general public about the friendliest way of practicing tourism, taking care of the species and the ecosystem that give identity to this great land that is Baja California Sur.

Volaris launches two new flights from Mexicali and Querétaro to Los Cabos

Los Cabos expands its air connectivity portfolio by adding two new national routes that will connect direct flights with the city of Querétaro and Mexicali, run by Volaris, a strategic ally that has integrated nine routes to the destination throughout this year.

The Los Cabos-Querétaro route began operations on July 10, with four frequencies a week (Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday); for its part, the flight with the city of Mexicali operates from July 13, in the evening with two frequencies (Thursday and Sunday). Both will be carried out on board an A320 type aircraft with an average capacity of 180 passengers, which will encourage the traffic of visitors from two important markets such as the northern area of the Baja California peninsula and the Bajío.

“Expanding connectivity, hand in hand with the most important players in the industry such as Volaris, gives us the opportunity to strengthen the image of Los Cabos and our commitment to develop products and services that encourage cooperation and investment ties that benefit the economic and social growth of the destination, as well as getting closer to a greater number of potential travelers,” said Rodrigo Esponda, director of the Los Cabos Tourism Trust.

“At Volaris we are very proud of these two new routes that will connect the main tourist destinations in Baja California Sur, with strategic cities such as Mexicali and Querétaro, which in addition to being important poles of economic development, also have a strong passenger market. that is looking for attractive beach destinations for vacations, which will help boost the economic development of the peninsular state”, commented Omar Carrera, Commercial Director of Volaris.

It should be noted that in the accumulated from January to May 2023, the destination received a total of 590,000 national tourists, which represents an increase of 24% compared to 2022. With Mexico City as the main issuing market (195,000 visitors ), followed by Guadalajara (87 thousand) and Tijuana (77 thousand); Volaris being one of the airlines with the largest operational presence in Los Cabos.

This weekend the marlin release tournament "Los Cabos Release Tournament" took place with the participation of 23 teams that managed to catch and release 127 striped marlins.

The "Tag Team" team was the one who accumulated the most points with 1,200 and took $42,262.

"La Chingona" achieved a cumulative score of 1,100 points and was ranked second with a prize of $17,609.

Third place went to "Double B" with 1,000 points and a prize of $10,565.

The one-time prize of $9,625 per dorado catch went to "Stella June" for her catch of 47.6 pounds.

It should be noted that this tournament created by Zach Morrow and coordinated by Clicerio Mercado Hernández, seeks to implement new competition modalities that allow good fishing throughout the year, and allow the species to grow by using the "catch and release" as the main method of participation.
