Los Cabos Airport Millionaire investment and excellence in service mark its five-year anniversary

Aeropuerto

During the period 2020-2024, Los Cabos International Airport has been the epicenter of a series of improvements that have transformed the travel experience of millions of passengers. With an investment of close to $3.6 million pesos, the aerodrome has undergone an ambitious renovation that ranges from physical infrastructure to commercial and environmental aspects, as revealed in the recent Advisory Commission.

The constant increase in passenger traffic has been a constant in this five-year period, with an impressive increase of 10% in 2023, reaching the figure of 7 million 716 thousand travelers. This year, the airport has expanded its flight offering, offering 520 weekly departure frequencies to 12 domestic and 37 international destinations, including the long-awaited route to Frankfurt, Germany, which will open in November.

Detailed analysis of passenger origin reveals notable diversity, with 55.5% coming from the United States, followed by 39.1% domestic travelers. Canada and Europe also contribute significantly, with 5.3% and 0.1% respectively.

Francisco Villaseñor Reyes, director of the Airport, highlighted the commitment to excellence in service through the Master Development Plan. The refurbishment and expansion of Terminals 1 and 2 are testament to this vision, with the addition of 12 additional counters and the installation of modern information screens. Efforts are also focused on operational efficiency, with the introduction of autonomous migration filters to increase hourly passenger capacity.

User satisfaction has been a fundamental pillar in this transformation, as demonstrated by the two-point increase in surveys, reaching an impressive 91%. This recognition was reflected in the Airport Service Quality (ASQ) award obtained in February 2024, where the airport was awarded as the best in its category in Latin America and the Caribbean.

In addition to its commitment to excellence in service, Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacífico (GAP) celebrates the tenth anniversary of the GAP Foundation. In Los Cabos, the foundation operates two schools and a community center, providing quality education and development opportunities to hundreds of students and community members.

With a combination of strategic investments and a customer- and community-focused approach, Los Cabos International Airport has established itself as a benchmark for quality and excellence in the region.

San José del Cabo celebrates its 294th anniversary of founding and 44th anniversary as an independent municipality

C03DEE8C A1D3 46B2 93B7 5EE9899AAF91
Los Cabos, Baja California Sur, Mexico, April 8, 2024 - San José del Cabo, a community rooted in rich history and continuous progress, today commemorates the 294th anniversary of its founding, as well as the 44th anniversary of its establishment as an independent
municipality. These milestones are testament to the city's enduring commitment to its cultural heritage and sustainable growth.

The region named “California” by the Spanish since 1535, was a geopolitically crucial enclave and a source of vital resources for the Manila galleons, thanks to the estuary, known as Aguada Segura. However, the resistance of both the Pericúes indigenous people and the pirate siege initially prevented the permanent founding of a mission in these lands.

April 8, 1730 marked the beginning of the consolidation of San José del Cabo, when Father Nicolás Tamaral (accompanied by the visiting father, José de Echeverría) founded the mission in the Pericú territory. Since then, the city has been a center of economic, cultural and social activity on the peninsula.

Although most visitors are familiar with the lively nightlife of Cabo San Lucas and the serene beauty of San José del Cabo, the deep and complex indigenous cultural history, and transition to modern times, of Ancient California remains less explored.

The history of the region is rich and multifaceted, from the first encounters between the Spanish conquistadors and indigenous tribal groups (such as the Pericúes, the Guaycuras and the Cochimíes), to the colonization and evangelization efforts led by Spanish Jesuit missionaries in the century XVIII.

The rock paintings scattered throughout the area are silent witnesses of indigenous life and culture, standing out in places such as Las Manitasand Rancho El Refugio. Other iconic sites, such as El Faro Viejo de Cabo Falso, Plaza Amelia Wilkes and the historic Mission San José del Cabo, are living testimonies to the rich cultural and historical heritage, offering a fascinating window into the region's ancient past.

Since its founding, San José del Cabo has witnessed significant events, such as the Californian insurrection in 1734, until its establishment as an independent municipality on April 8, 1980, experiencing significant growth in infrastructure, tourism and community development.

As part of the celebration of both anniversaries, a series of special events are scheduled to reflect the diversity and vitality of the community. On April 8, Blue Gate Expeditions will host an educational talk and solar eclipse viewing session, providing a unique opportunity to explore the cosmos.

On April 10, the city chronicler, Gabriel Fonseca, and the writer, Luis Domínguez Bareño, will offer a talk about the history and legacy of San José del Cabo at the Municipal Palace. Then, a discussion between a group of prominent Cabeños, who will share their perspectives and experiences, immersing attendees in the identity and heritage of Los Cabos.

On April 12, a cultural celebration will be held with the presentation of Los Huizapoles, also coinciding with its 40th anniversary, in addition to local musical performances and exhibitions of regional dances.
