Los Cabos Restaurants Face Low Season with Possible Temporary Closures
The representative of the National Chamber of the Restaurant and Seasoned Food Industry (Canirac) in Los Cabos, Paloma Araoz Wilkes, reported that given the low tourist season, some establishments could temporarily close. This situation is due to a drastic decrease in the influx of tourists and diners after the holidays and the spring breaker season.
“All the restaurants, from the small ones to the big ones, are feeling the low season. Maybe there will be some that close temporarily, although in the end that also has an impact because you have to continue paying payroll and everything,” Araoz Wilkes mentioned, highlighting the financial impact that this can have on the sector.
The Los Cabos restaurant sector is going through an unusual situation, with a drop in the number of tourists and diners that has not been seen in many years, especially since Easter. This situation has left the central areas and the marina visibly desolate, affecting both small and large establishments.
To mitigate the impact of the low season, Araoz Wilkes mentioned that they could implement discounts and promotions aimed at local residents. “Right now it is a bit complicated, to be honest, and I think everyone can see it in the center, in the marina, which is very lonely. So we will have to start what has been done in other years, with promotions and discounts for locals. At the end of the day, we do have tourists, but those who support us in these low seasons are the locals,” she stated.
These measures seek to encourage internal consumption and support establishments during the months of lower tourist activity. The Canirac representative emphasized that the Southern California community plays a crucial role in the sustainability of the restaurant sector in these periods of lower tourist influx.
The low tourist season represents a significant challenge for the local economy, and the response of the restaurant sector will be decisive in keeping businesses operational and the jobs they generate. Meanwhile, the local community is seen as the lifeline that can help restaurants get through these difficult months through their support and consumption.

The San Francisco 49ers and the Los Cabos Tourism Trust join forces in a children's sports clinic
Participation of 115 local children and young athletes, through a call by the Sports Institute of the Municipality of Los Cabos and the American football league of Baja California Sur.
With the presence of figures such as Patrick Willis and Diana Flores, the “Day with the 49ers” clinic inspired youth and strengthened tourism in Los Cabos, highlighting its commitment to well-being and community development.
This clinic is an example of how the destination's tourism promotion efforts provide unique and beneficial opportunities to the local community.
The San Francisco 49ers and the Los Cabos Tourism Trust (FITURCA) joined forces to organize the “day with the 49ers” sports clinic, which took place on May 31 in Cabo San Lucas, Baja California Sur. The Bicentenario Stadium was the setting for this event, which brought together 115 children and young people between 9 and 18 years old from the Los Cabos community, giving them the opportunity to train with professional methods. It was through the Sports Institute of the Municipality of Los Cabos and the American football league of Baja California Sur that the call for participants was carried out.
The training was led by Patrick Willis, Pro Football Hall of Famer and San Francisco 49ers Hall of Famer; Sofy Navarro, Senior Manager of 49ers EDU, and Diana Flores, Los Cabos Brand Ambassador and Flag Football World Champion, who shared their experience, offering inspiration and knowledge to participants.
"Life is about connection, and there is no better connection than the one California has with the 49ers and Mexico. It is always wonderful to spend time here and I plan to return very soon and more often," shared Patrick Willis.
In her speech, Sofy Navarro added that "as a woman with a Mexican heritage, it is an honor to be able to represent the 49ers at an event in Los Cabos, to promote not only sports and American football, but also local communities. We are delighted “We are excited to have expanded the reach of football while promoting community development and providing enriching opportunities for the residents of Los Cabos.”
In the words of Diana Flores, "more than an alliance, the collaboration of Los Cabos and 49ers is an opportunity to change lives through sports. Today, more than ever, we find ourselves in an important moment to continue building bridges and tools for our following generations, encouraging them to achieve their dreams on and off the field. I am very proud that Los Cabos makes these types of efforts with purpose, with an objective that, beyond creating ties between two cultures, truly seeks and works for change. ".
This clinic reaffirms the Los Cabos Tourism Trust's commitment to inclusion and diversity, uniting sports enthusiasts and their families in a positive and healthy environment. Furthermore, this collaboration played a crucial role in Los Cabos' strategic objectives of increasing tourist flow and strengthening its position in the US market, especially with the Californian city of San Francisco.
“Establishing strategic alliances with entities that share our vision of promoting health and well-being is essential to consolidate our position as a leading destination,” said Rodrigo Esponda, general director of the Los Cabos Tourism Trust (FITURCA). “Los Cabos is a place where athletes can come to revitalize, heal and find their own path to wellness. We are committed to ensuring that our initiatives benefit the local community, which relies heavily on tourism. “This clinic is an example of how our efforts can offer unique and beneficial opportunities to the residents of this beautiful place.”
With an average of 26 direct weekly flights from San Francisco, Los Cabos is just a three-hour flight from the city located in Northern California, making it a preferred destination for Bay Area residents. From January to March of this year, Los Cabos welcomed 41,350 tourists from San Francisco, which represented an increase of 35.9% compared to the same period in 2023. Currently, California represents 23.6% of visitors to Los Cabos. This close collaboration with the 49ers was a key factor in making Los Cabos a favorite destination for residents of California and San Francisco.
This action has been a key strategic investment for FITURCA, seeking not only to promote Los Cabos as a privileged tourist destination, but also to promote the destination's community. This collaboration has allowed Los Cabos to be positioned in the minds of thousands of American football fans and potential tourists, achieving a positive impact on the local economy and offering direct benefits to the community. The "Day with the 49ers" clinic is a clear example of how this investment is generating opportunities for personal and community development for the youth of Los Cabos, promoting health, well-being and tourism in the region.

The legendary Solmar Hotel celebrated half a century since it began operations on the beach of Cabo San Lucas facing the Mexican Pacific, very close to the famous stone arch, thanks to one of the great characters of Los Cabos, Don Luis BulnesMolleda (1928- 2011), businessman and visionary hotelier who, together with his inseparable wife and great composer Doña Conchita Bulnes Malo, began the golden era of this port.

The celebration took place precisely in one of the areas near the spectacular rocky area of the hotel where at that time the famous suites were located that were named by Don Luis as Ray Cannon, journalist from the remembered and prestigious sport fishing publication Western Outdoor News ; also the Pancho King suite, pioneer of TV in Baja California Sur, and; Tico Medina, Spanish journalist that Don Luis also appreciated.
This great celebration was presided over by CharoBulnes Malo, daughter of the Bulnes couple, who remembered her deceased brother Paco Bulnes(July 2, 2021).
CharoBulnes' children, María and Javier and other close relatives were present at this emotional event. Governor Víctor Castro Cosío and his wife also attended, in addition to several personalities and friends of the Bulnes family, the State Secretary of Tourism, Maribel Collins, also attended..
