Sabor a Cabo Gastronomic Festival Highlights the Culinary Riches of Los Cabos and its Social Impact

Sabor a Cabo 1

In the fifteenth edition of the Sabor a Cabo Gastronomic Festival, Maribel Collins, Secretary of Tourism and Economy of Baja California Sur, expressed her enthusiasm for the continuity of this event that highlights the importance of gastronomy in the tourist offer of Los Cabos. She highlighted that the region has positioned itself not only as a sun and beach destination, but also as a culinary benchmark with events of international relevance.

"I am very happy that the organizers, well the founders, continue with this initiative. I celebrated together with them and the attendees that they really give that importance to gastronomy. Because Cabo has already positioned itself as a destination where the Tourists don't just come to enjoy the sun and beach. They also look for the dishes," said Collins.

Edgar Román, Chef, Culinary Director of Sabor a Cabo and President of the Batel Baja California Sur Club, was proud to carry out an event that, in addition to highlighting local gastronomy, has an altruistic impact. He noted that the participation of internationally recognized chefs and the presence of a renowned jury contribute to the success of the festival.

"Definitely, today we are making this merger with Canirac and obviously with the Sabor a Cabo event. Batel we have always been an association. Also here in La Baja we have been focused precisely on altruism. And well, this is an altruistic event per se, where firefighters and other associations are supported. So we share the philosophy of helping," said Chef Román.

Luis Sandoval, Captain Chief of Operations of the Cabos San Lucas Fire Department, highlighted the importance of the event as a fundamental support for his institution. He thanked the organizers for the donation of an ambulance and highlighted the quality of the event, considering it to be first class.

"On this occasion we needed an ambulance and today, later today, they are going to deliver an ambulance that will benefit our people in Los Cabos. No, the truth is that it is a first-class event. In other words, we have already experienced it year after year," commented Captain Sandoval.

International visitors also praised the festival, highlighting the diversity of the culinary offering and the hospitality of the staff. Katarina and Clint, from Canada, expressed their satisfaction with the dining options and overall festival experience.

"It's wonderful and all the chefs and staff are so friendly. It's lovely, I'm enjoying the wine. And you know what else is fascinating? The people, so many different fashions, so many different types of people coming, I love it. It's entertaining for the eyes," shared the visitors.

The Sabor a Cabo Gastronomic Festival not only highlights the culinary excellence of Los Cabos, but also contributes to social initiatives, such as supporting local firefighters, thus strengthening the role of gastronomy in the comprehensive development of the regionSabor a Cabo 2

Hogue at Yandi Monardo gallery

Hogue CNT 1 1

Horacio Guerriero, renowned Uruguayan artist, presented his work at the Yandi Monardo Gallery, on Luxury Avenue in the Marina of Cabo San Lucas. The exhibition, inaugurated last Friday, December 1, was attended by the Uruguayan ambassador to Mexico, senior officials of the Ministry of Culture of Uruguay and personalities from the artistic and social world of Los Cabos, among other attendees.

Yandi Monardo, Artist and Art Promoter: “It was a selection because of the technique he uses. Since you can see the use of charcoal, pencil and pastel. So the curatorship went that way. The exhibition is made up of more than 17 large-format pieces on cotton paper and one on canvas, and is the first part of everything that the master addresses as an artist.”

For his part, the ambassador of Uruguay commented:

Aníbal Cabrera, Ambassador of Uruguay in Mexico: “It is a very deep work, very introspective, but it demonstrates the lines of a cartoonist's drawing and we believe that it is a work that is going to be very successful, which is a good letter of introduction for Uruguay and that the public of Los Cabos, which is a multicultural public, will be able to appreciate it.”

Facundo de Almeida, Coordinator of International Affairs: “We arrived here due to a request from the Embassy of Uruguay in Mexico that put us in contact and we began to talk about the possibility, so we made the proposal to them, we sent a dossier that they accepted, they made the selection of the work and well, this took more or less a year of work and finally we decided to bring the work on paper, and we are very happy to present the exhibition here.”

Noelia Martínez, Consul of Uruguay in Mexico: “I loved the power of these drawings, the strength they have, how they represent the human figure, and it was incredible to know that other facet, right? The evolution of an artist who seems wonderful to me. . We began to think and dream that we could do something that would definitely continue linking Uruguay with Mexico, because having him here is already a beginning, right? He is already a cultural beacon as I say, and well, that's when we started to dream about this “an idea that today came to fruition with this exhibition.”

Guerriero, also known as Hogue, is a very versatile artist: cartoonist, graphic designer, publicist and teacher who stands out for his great talent, creativity and peculiar humor.

Here he tells us about his motivations and inspirations:

Horacio Guerriero, Hogue, Plastic Artist: “And this is the work that comes from the gut, that in some way the influences are multiple, they are varied. The idea with this is to reach people in any way possible and for each person to make their own reading of it. This work and the strength it has is a theme of mine, it is a translation of mine to the people. If you observe, the works are numbered, they do not have names, if I gave a title to one work or I gave a title to all of them, I would be conditioning, directing it to a certain place. The issue of listing them generates a disengagement for the viewer, the viewer feels free to be surprised and there is freedom, and it has to be that way, if it isn't that way, it doesn't work."

Since childhood he showed his passion for drawing and caricature. His professional career began in 1978 collaborating as an illustrator in the newspaper El Día. Since then, he has worked in various media, advertising agencies, editorials and cultural projects, both in Uruguay and abroad.

Jesús Flores: “A provocative work, a work that captures you and, above all, because of the detail it has, he has the audacity to stand on you visually, but also mentally, that you turn around because of all the strokes and all the extraordinary work that he has in each of the works.”

Galeana Pietropaolo: “…an extremely talented artist, with an impressive charcoal technique and it is a work that shakes you, right? I think the artist's intention is to shake, it is to move emotions; I was very struck by the duality of the human being with animals, from the roots that plant you to the earth with the wings that want to fly. And it seems to me that it is an exhibition that is going to be a watershed in the cultural world of Los Cabos.”

Dino Pietropaolo: “He is a disturbing artist, deeply disturbing, but I believe that is his intention. Yes, it's impressive. Yes, I liked it a lot and I think we are really looking at a great artist from Uruguay.”

Joyce Neibart: (translation) “…The degree of detail, the perfection and the feeling in it, it really takes your breath away.”

The Yandi Monardo Gallery is a dynamic space for creation and contemporary thought in all its manifestations, as well as a live workshop that promotes art among young people.

Yandi Monardo, Artist and Art Promoter: “We always invite universities, primary schools, and secondary schools to participate in the cultural development that we actively propose to our community.

Horacio Guerriero, Hogue, Plastic Artist: “In fact, these past three days we have had talks with students of different levels. Yesterday I was at ITES and of course, it is very enriching.”

Yandi's gallery is the living scene of pictorial culture in Los Cabos where collaborations are carried out with established artists and emerging talents.

The surprise during the opening of the exhibition was a sample of interpretive dance by two outstanding tango dancers that attendees enjoyed.

Admission to the exhibition is free, and it will be accessible to the public for three months from Monday to Sunday from 10 in the morning to 10 at night.

Do not miss it.
