The United States Ambassador, Christopher Landau and the Consul General of this country in Tijuana, Sue Saarnio, paid a visit to Los Cabos to carry out a personal inspection of the various aspects of our destination in terms of biosecurity, as these have stood out as a example at an international level this year, which has been one of the most challenging in tourism.

During this visit, the coordinated work between the public and private sectors of Los Cabos was verified, demonstrating its efficiency in offering a safe travel experience for North American tourists.

The stay of the ambassador and the consul of the neighboring country allowed to hold important meetings with businessmen and representatives of the private and public sectors in matters of biosafety, investment and other economic aspects, as well as having a presentation by the Secretary of Tourism, Economy and Sustainability, Luis H. Araiza, the president of the National Chamber of the Restaurant and Seasoned Food Industry, Gianmarco Vela, the president of the Board of Directors of the Los Cabos Hotel Association, Mauricio Salicrup and the general director of the Los Cabos Tourism Trust , Rodrigo Esponda.

Since its reopening, on June 15, the tourism sector of Los Cabos has done incessant work to guarantee a safe travel experience, implementing various initiatives among which the health and hygiene protocols stand out, the obtaining of certifications within the chain value of tourist services, social initiatives that reduce the economic impact of the pandemic in order to guarantee the well-being of international and national visitors, as well as the local community.

Baja California Sur has been selected to participate in the national project "Integration of biodiversity conservation criteria in the tourism sector in Mexico, with an emphasis on the richness of biodiversity in coastal ecosystems", through which it seeks to promote and consolidate the sustainable development of the industry in the country, informed the Secretary of Tourism, Economy and Sustainability (SETUES), Luis Humberto Araiza López.

Accompanied by the executive president of Conservation of the Mexican Insular Territory AC, better known as Grupo Isla, María Helena Martínez Delgado, the official thanked the determined work of the members of this association, who for almost six years worked so that the entity was considered in This program whose main purpose is to strengthen tourism as an engine of development and economic growth, capable of protecting biodiversity and generating well-being in all sectors of society, based on four components that include: regulatory framework, financing and investment for the conservation, design of good practices of tourist activities and promotion of Mexico as a friendly destination with the environment.

Araiza López pointed out that this project, headed by the federal SECTUR, will apply a total of 7.2 million dollars from the World Environment Fund, which he commented, will be distributed between Mexico City, Oaxaca, Quintana Roo and Baja California Sur , highlighting that in the case of the State, it will have the participation of the state government and the Autonomous University (UABCS).

In BCS, the flora and fauna protection area of ​​the Gulf of California islands, the Espiritu Santo Archipelago Marine Zone National Park, the Balandra flora and fauna protection area, the Cabo Pulmo National Park, the Sierra biosphere reserve will benefit. Los Cabos, BCS, Nov. 19 - As part of the recognition of the work carried out in a municipality with an organized society and aware of the importance of keeping the main source of employment active: tourism, the municipal president of Los Cabos, Armida Castro Guzmán, presented before the Union of Secretaries of Tourism of Mexico (Asetur), tourism strategies, promotion and marketing, being a model destination at the national level thanks to the security protocols that have been implemented.

In the company of the Secretary of Tourism, Economy and Sustainability of the State, Luis Humberto Araiza López, -who concluded his term as president of ASETUR-, the mayor began his participation explaining that during the high season of 2020, it is estimated to have a recovery of 60% of the tourist influx that was had in 2019, translating into the visit of 170 thousand foreign and national tourists.

“Los Cabos, foresees an important hotel recovery for the end of the year. Until the end of October, the destination has registered a 74% recovery in international tourism, and in terms of national tourism, it is at last year's levels, so the destination receives tourists according to the allowed capacity thanks to the security protocols that we have stipulated ”, explained the mayor.

In relation to one of the main attractions of the destination, Castro Guzmán reminded those present of the 22 beaches with the international distinctive "Blue Flag", recognized and valued by millions of people in the world, in addition to highlighting what: Viudas, Santa María, El Chileno, Palmilla and Acapulquito, have the “Platinum Beach” certification that positions them worldwide.

"With the aim of promoting the promotion of tourist destinations that currently opened their doors to the traveler, an alliance called" Tourist Route through Mexico "was created from Los Cabos, a proposal with which we can ensure the economic reactivation of the sector of various renowned tourist poles, adding up to now 8 municipalities in the country ”, emphasized the municipal president.

To conclude, Mayor Armida Castro Guzmán exhibited the “Twinning Signature” strategy created with the goal of reactivating the local economy, taking into account that the affiliation of Sister Cities has fostered mutual understanding, trust, respect and appreciation. between municipalities. Araiza López highlighted the commitment of tourism entrepreneurs in health strategies such as the certification of the “Clean Point” program that SETUES promotes together with the federal SECTUR, obtaining the “Safes Travels” seal of quality granted by the World Travel and Tourism Council , as well as the application of PCR tests in coordination with the state Ministry of Health, to detect positive cases, thereby cutting the chain of infections.

He also mentioned that the International Airports of Los Cabos and La Paz were accredited in the "Accreditation of Sanitary Measures for Airports" program, operated by the International Airports Council.
