49ers Tight End George Kittle, Hidden Pearls and ABC Sports Foundation Host First-Ever “Football for Change” Event in Los Cabos

49ers

Hidden Pearls Podcast & Studio, founded by NFL star George Kittle, his father Bruce Kittle and sister Emma Kittle, teamed up with ABC Sports Foundation to host the first-ever “Football for Change” event in Los Cabos, an experience that combines wellness, philanthropy and community service with a shared passion for American football.

With the spectacular landscape of Los Cabos as the backdrop, inclusive American football camps for boys and girls were held, highlighting the one held on Saturday, February 22, in which more than 100 girls participated in flag football, reaffirming the commitment of this initiative to promote sports for all.

“This event is much more than American football,” said Bruce Kittle, co-founder of Hidden Pearls Podcast & Studio. “It’s about creating an environment where wellness, mental health and personal growth meet sport and community work. Our vision is to build stronger, healthier athletes, which in the long run leads to empowered and engaged individuals, not just on the field, but in their daily lives.”

NFL star George Kittle supported this vision by saying, “It was incredible to see my 49ers teammates step up as coaches and mentor these young athletes. Seeing over 100 girls compete, enjoy the game and gain confidence was truly inspiring. This event proves that football can be a powerful tool for positive change.”

Ashley Allen, Executive Director of ABC Sports Foundation, highlighted the broader impact of the event: “We are excited to partner with the Kittle family to make this initiative a reality. At ABC Sports Foundation, our goal is to empower the community through sport. This event perfectly reflected that spirit, generating meaningful connections and promoting the growth of football as well as overall well-being.”

The Los Cabos Tourism Trust (FITURCA) shares this commitment to community development and recognizes the importance of initiatives such as “Football for Change.” “The success of this first event is a great opportunity to show boys and girls the transformative power of sport,” said Rodrigo Esponda, CEO of the trust. “We look forward to continuing to collaborate with Bruce Kittle, his family and the entire 49ers team in future editions.”

As part of this initiative, various volunteer activities were also carried out, such as visits to two schools and a community center, reinforcing the event’s core value: giving back and positively impacting the community. In addition to the football camps, players participated in wellness sessions such as yoga and group activities, underscoring the event’s holistic approach.

The collaboration between Los Cabos and the San Francisco 49ers has been a notable success in promoting sport and tourism in the region. In May of last year, they teamed up to organize a sports clinic in Cabo San Lucas, where 115 children and young people from the community had the opportunity to train with prominent figures such as Patrick Willis and Diana Flores.

This initiative has not only strengthened sports inclusion in the community, but has also reinforced Los Cabos' position as a preferred tourist destination for American football fans, especially from San Francisco. In addition, the alliance has allowed Los Cabos to have a presence in the 49ers stadium and digital assets, promoting the destination to a wider audience. This strategic collaboration has been crucial to increasing tourist flow and consolidating Los Cabos' position in the US market

Los Cabos strengthens its tourism positioning with high-impact strategies

FITURCA 1

The Los Cabos Tourism Trust (FITURCA) presented its annual report for 2024, highlighting the positive impact of tourism promotion on the economic and social development of the region. The dissemination strategy implemented has proven to be highly effective, generating an economic spillover 323 times greater for each peso invested in promotion.

The report indicates a notable increase in the average nightly rate, which went from $286 dollars in 2019 to $481 dollars in 2024. In addition, the average expenditure per visitor reached $6,367 dollars with a stay of 6.1 nights, exceeding the expenditure of the previous year by a thousand dollars. These data reflect the high valuation of the tourist experience in the destination.

Quality tourism and diversification of experiences

During 2024, more than 60% of visitors participated in activities in contact with nature, while 16% explored local culture and gastronomy. This diversification has made it possible to strengthen the attractiveness of the destination and its tourist offer.

The tourism promotion campaign reached eleven key markets: the United States, Canada, Mexico, Colombia, Brazil, Australia, the United Kingdom, Spain, France, Germany and Japan. As a result, Los Cabos received nearly 3.8 million visitors in 2024. Despite a slight decrease in the total number of tourists compared to the previous year, the average spending per visitor experienced a significant increase.

The state's Undersecretary of Tourism and Economy, Fernando Ojeda, highlighted the importance of FITURCA and other promotion trusts in Baja California Sur, noting that "this has allowed us to compete and remain on a global scale."

Air connectivity: key to growth

Los Cabos established itself as the third best-connected destination in Mexico, with more than 572 weekly flights from 32 destinations in the United States, 11 in Canada, 16 domestic flights, and one in Germany. In addition, there was an 81% increase in the arrival of tourists by private aviation compared to 2019, with more than 93 thousand visitors.

Sustainable tourism and community development

One of the most significant advances in 2024 was the promotion of sustainable and community tourism. The Los Cabos Rural Guide, made up of more than 60 guides from 20 communities, promotes authentic experiences that directly benefit the local population. This effort, the result of three years of collaborative work, is constantly updated to strengthen rural development.

Rodrigo Esponda, General Director of FITURCA, highlighted the destination's commitment to responsible tourism: "Los Cabos' commitment is to tourism that not only encourages the arrival of travelers, but also promotes local well-being and development."

According to the report, 71% of the population employed in the tourism sector has employment benefits, and 81% of visitors expressed total satisfaction with their experience at the destination.

Strategy for 2025

With the aim of maintaining the upward trajectory, FITURCA has defined the following priorities for 2025:

Strengthen the quality of the tourism offer.

Maintain leadership in the US market.

Increase the arrival of Canadian tourists.

Consolidate the relevance of the destination at a national level.

Expand in emerging markets such as Australia, Brazil, the United Kingdom, Spain, Germany and Japan.

FITURCA takes off towards new air horizons at Routes Americas 2025

Routes Americas

Los Cabos stands out as the only Mexican destination at Routes Americas, reaffirming its leadership in air connectivity.

The Los Cabos Tourism Trust (FITURCA) participated in the 18th edition of Routes Americas 2025, held from February 10 to 12 in Nassau & Paradise Island, Bahamas. This event is recognized as the main forum for the development of air routes in the American continent.

Los Cabos is the only Mexican destination with a stand at this important event, where strategic meetings were held with leading airlines such as American Airlines, Delta and JetBlue, among others, with the aim of strengthening and expanding Los Cabos' air connectivity to key markets in North America, Central America and Europe.

"Our presence at Routes Americas reinforces our commitment to improving air connectivity in Los Cabos, facilitating access for international travelers and promoting economic growth in our region," said Rodrigo Esponda, CEO of FITURCA.

During the event, FITURCA held a meeting with Volaris, where the possibility of continuing to expand with flights from the United States to San José del Cabo was evaluated. Thanks to ongoing efforts to improve air connectivity, a new direct route was recently confirmed with Volaris from Oakland to Los Cabos, which will begin operations on March 20, 2025. With a daily frequency, this route seeks to attract 186 tourists each day to the destination, strengthening the arrival of travelers from the west coast of the United States.

FITURCA also held a strategic meeting with the leading luxury airline in transcontinental flights, Cóndor Flugdienst, to strengthen the route from Frankfurt, which will end next April, in its first season, and will resume operations in November of this year.

Within the framework of Routes Americas, it was confirmed that American Airlines is expanding its connectivity to Los Cabos from ORD (Chicago O'Hare), DFW (Dallas/Fort Worth) and LAX (Los Angeles) airports, offering more seats for travelers. During the event, opportunities were also explored with COPA, Iberia and Emirates to expand connectivity to new markets in Central America and the Middle East.

Participation in Routes Americas 2025 is part of FITURCA's comprehensive strategy to position Los Cabos as a top-level tourist destination, offering a wide range of experiences in luxury tourism, gastronomy, adventure and wellness. With these actions, Los Cabos reaffirms its commitment to innovation and excellence in the tourism industry.

Currently, Los Cabos manages 85% of Baja California Sur's connectivity, with 60 source markets in four different countries. This makes it the third largest recipient of international visitors in Mexico, highlighting the fundamental role of air connectivity in regional economic growth.
